JR has been performing successful buyouts for nearly 20 years, as both an executive and an investor.
While still in his twenties, he led the buy-out of a group of East Coast wholesale, retail and real estate companies. Over 10 years, he grew the companies to over $80 million in revenue and 300 employees and successfully exited through a strategic sale.
As an investor, JR focuses on buyouts and growth opportunities. Before founding Tregaron, he invested actively as both a venture capital and private equity investor focusing niche companies in a variety of industries.
Matthews received a BSE in Electrical Engineering from Duke University with Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude honors and Distinction and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the Duke University Pratt School of Engineering Board of Visitors.
John Thornton

John Thornton has over 20 years of experience as a private equity and mezzanine debt investment professional.
Prior to Tregaron Thornton was a Partner at Pacific Community Ventures, a $60 million growth oriented private equity fund manager, where he was focused on making equity investments in high growth lower middle market California businesses.
Previously Thornton was a Principal with American Capital Strategies, Inc., a $5 billion specialty finance and leveraged buyout firm, where he was responsible for sourcing, structuring, analyzing and closing middle market growth financings and leveraged buyout transactions.
Prior to American Capital, Thornton served as an Associate and Vice President at Berkeley International Capital, a $6 billion fund management company specializing in private placements in support of middle market acquisition and growth financings.
Thornton holds a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and an MBA degree from the University of California Berkeley's Haas School of Business.
Todd Collins

Todd Collins has been a consultant, executive, and investor in growth and mid-market companies for 25 years.
He was a Managing Director at Parthenon Group, the Boston-based international strategy consulting firm. There he led the Technology Practice, advising public and private growth companies in the areas of market selection, distribution strategy, and mergers & acquisitions.
In 2001, Collins joined Audax Group, a Boston-based private equity group with $1 billion under management, where he led buy-out transactions in the technology and business services areas.
Collins received a BA in Government from Harvard University with honors and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.
